Bradley Wiggins takes yellow jersey after stage seven

Bradley Wiggins took the famed yellow jersey after stage seven of the Tour de France and leads by 10 seconds overall.

Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins took the famed yellow jersey after stage seven of the Tour de France and leads by 10 seconds heading into the next stage.

Wiggins is the first Briton to wear the jersey in 12 years - only the fifth in history - and he admits that it was a dream come true.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet," PA quotes Wiggins as saying. "It sounds corny but it's something I've dreamt of since I was a child. I'd sit on the home trainer watching my hero, my Tour de France hero, Miguel Indurain.

"To be here, on the top of a mountain in the yellow jersey is phenomenal. This was the plan; it's what we've trained for all year."

Wiggins finished third in the stage but leads overall.
