Great Britain lose out to Austria

British pairing Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf suffer a straight-sets defeat to Austria in the European Games preliminary round.

Great Britain have suffered a 2-0 defeat to Austria in the preliminary round of the men's beach volleyball event.

The pairing of Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf had looked on course to take the early advantage after moving into an 11-6 lead in the first set, but they were pegged back by opponents Tobias Winter and Lorenz Peter Petutschnig.

The Austrian duo eventually took the set by a 21-19 scoreline, and they built on their momentum in the second by racing into a 7-1 lead.

Gregory and Sheaf were unable to get any closer to their opponents as they remained behind, and although Team GB saved two match points, they lost the set 21-12 which resulted in them losing the match.
