Red Sox win World Series

Boston Red Sox have clinched their eighth World Series by beating St Louis Cardinals 6-1 in game six at Fenway Park.

Three wins in a row has seen John Farrell's men, who were 2-1 down heading into game four of the best-of-seven series, secure the title on their home patch for the first time since 1918.

With the bases loaded at the bottom of the third, a double from Shane Victorino allowed Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz and Jonny Gomes to cross the plate for a 3-0 lead.

A home run from Stephen Drew increased their comfort, before Ellsbury and Ortiz all but confirmed victory in the fourth innings.

Daniel Descalso clawed a run back at the top of the seventh, but once again the Red Sox shut the Cardinals down at the close, with Koji Uehara completing the job.
