Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera breaks saves record

New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera holds the record for the most saves of all time after picking up number 602 against the Minnesota Twins last night.

The 41-year-old is widely regarded as the greatest ever in his role and after his achievement received a huge ovation from the crowd at Yankee Stadium.

"For the first time in my career, I am on the mound alone," Rivera said.

"There was nobody behind me, nobody in front of me, and I'm still surrounded by so many people. I can't describe that feeling. It was priceless.

“It was a moment I didn't know could be like that. I was thanking God in that moment."

The Yankees won the game 6-4 as Rivera picked up his 43rd save of the campaign.
