The St Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has confirmed his retirement just days after guiding his side to success in the World Series.
The 67-year-old has decided to quit baseball after a 33-season association with the sport, 16 of which were spent with Cardinals.
"There isn't one [factor] that dominates [my decision]," La Russa said. "They all just come together telling you your time is over.
"We went through the season and I felt like it's time to end it and I think it's going to be great for the Cardinals to refresh what's going on here."
St Louis claimed the World Series crown last week after edging out the Texas Rangers 4-3.
