GB's Dina Asher-Smith sets British record in 200m, Dafne Schippers wins gold

Dina Asher-Smith sets a new British record by finishing fifth in the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships, while Dafne Schippers takes gold.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith has set a new British record in the women's 200m final at the World Athletics Championships, but she failed to medal as the Netherlands' Dafne Schippers took gold.

The 19-year-old smashed two personal bests on her way to reaching the final, but she faced tough competition in today's showdown.

In lane four, Asher-Smith stormed out of the blocks and she kept on the shoulder of early leader Elaine Thompson of Jamaica after the bend.

Thompson moved away from the field, but Schippers made a late surge and just edged ahead of her competitor to cross the finish line in first place in 21.63s.

Asher-Smith finished fifth in 22.07s, while Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown claimed bronze.
