Flannery beaten in 400 hurdles semis

Great Britain's Niall Flannery has failed to reach the final of the men's 400m hurdles after finishing fourth in his semi-final.

The Newham & Essex Beagles athlete tried to leave something in reserve for the second part of the race, but was unable to overhaul Michael Tinsley and Nicholas Bett, who qualified automatically.

With world number one Bershawn Jackson out after a first-round exit, Kenya's Boniface Mucheru Tumuti continued his impressive form from the heats, clocking 48.29s to progress.

However, Johnny Dutch is out after a mistake at the last hurdle cost him a place in the final as Russia's Denis Kudryavtsev produced a personal best to pass the American in the home straight.

The final takes place on Tuesday.
