Hitchon "over the moon" with bronze

Great Britain's Sophie Hitchon has revealed her delight after claiming a bronze medal in the women's hammer throw at the Olympics.

The 25-year-old took third place with a British-record throw of 74.54m on her final attempt, and the former World Junior Champion has said that she is "over the moon" with the success.

"Training has been going really really well. To get a bronze medal, I am over the moon," Hitchon told BBC Sport. "The girls are all throwing really well. They can always produce their best in the last round. I didn't expect that I would hold third, I just wanted to throw further.

"I had to double take a little bit! It was just incredible to see the number three there and an national record, I couldn't be happier."

Great Britain currently sit second in the medals table at the Rio Games.
