Greg Rutherford: 'I could beat Usain Bolt easily'

Team GB gold winner Greg Rutherford insists that he could "easily" beat Usain Bolt in a long jump showdown.

Team GB gold medalist Greg Rutherford has insisted that he could "easily" defeat Usain Bolt in a long jump showdown.

The fastest man on Earth, who historically defended his 100m and 200m sprint golds at London 2012, has recently hinted that he fancies a new challenge, suggesting that he could comfortably play for Man United or try his hand at Twenty20 cricket.

"If he did the long jump I think I'd beat him no problem," Rutherford, 25, told MK News. "People don't understand what it takes to be a long jumper to be totally honest.

"He might be able to run fast but let's see what his jumping ability is like. I reckon I would beat him easy."

Meanwhile, Rutherford - part of Team GB's historic 'Super Saturday' gold rush - also revealed that he is aiming to break into the men's 4x100m relay in time for Rio 2016.

"I'm going to run some hundreds and try and get into the relay team," he added. "I'll see how that goes, but for me it's all about long jump.

"It's what I do and what I am best at. I know I'm never going to be Olympic champion at 100m but I know I can be in the long jump which I've proven."
