Adam Gemili: 'I'm in good spirits'

Adam Gemili admits to mixed emotions after suffering an injury on the way to his first sub-10 seconds 100m race at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting.

Adam Gemili has insisted that he is in "good spirits" despite suffering an injury when crossing the line in the 100m final at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting this afternoon.

Gemili broke the 10-second barrier for the first time in his career at the Alexander Stadium, becoming the first British athlete to achieve that landmark as well as running 200m in under 20 seconds.

However, he had to be wheeled off the track having fallen and pulled his hamstring when lunging over the line, and he admitted that it was a case of mixed emotions after the race.

"Not the fairytale ending I wanted, but I'm proud to be the only Brit to go sub-10 and sub-20," Gemili told reporters.

"British sprinting is really stepping up and I'm glad to be a part of it. I felt my hamstring go as I dipped but I'm in good spirits. I can't make a comment on the injury yet."

Gemili, who finished the heat in exactly 10 seconds to qualify for the final, is the 100th sprinter to break that barrier.
