Alex Smith unlikely to reach hammer final

Great Britain's Alex Smith does not appear to have done enough to qualify for the final of the men's hammer event.

The 24-year-old managed a best distance of 74.71m from his three throws in the cage.

That has left him 10th in the overall standings, with half of the field still to compete.

The top 12 competitors will advance through to the final, which will take place later this week.
