Freya Murray to take Paula Radcliffe's place in women's marathon

Murray to replace Radcliffe

Scottish long-distance runner Freya Murray has been named as Paula Radcliffe's replacement for the Olympic women's marathon.

The three-time London marathon winner, who is yet to claim a medal at Olympic level, was forced to pull out of the race due to a foot injury.

"My thoughts go out to Paula, who has been extremely supportive towards me throughout this process," BBC Sport quotes Murray as saying. "I knew there was a chance I would be competing which has helped."

Murray was chosen as the world-record holder's reserve in April.
