Boris Johnson praises Olympic spirit

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has branded the 2012 Olympic Games "the most extraordinary event we can remember in our lifetimes".

The 48-year-old also thanked the Metropolitan Police for their security work, while he reserved special praise for the people of London and their "patience, kindness and enthusiasm".

Meanwhile, Lord Sebastian Coe has moved to praise the athletes following the conclusion of the Games on Sunday.

Team GB won 65 medals at the Games.
