IOC: 'No concern over Rio water standards'

The International Olympic Committee insists that it has no concerns over the standards of its water venues ahead of test events in Rio de Janeiro.

The International Olympic Committee has revealed that it has been assured by the World Health Organisation that its water facilities in Rio de Janeiro are safe.

With just over a year to go until the event in Brazil, there has been concern over the standard of water being used for sailing, rowing and triathlon events, with a report from The AP claiming that an investigation had found human adenoviruses to be present at the venues.

However, the IOC has revealed that measures, such as closing landfills and increasing water treatment works, were being taken to avoid any problems with either the test events in August or the Games next year.

The triathlon test event takes place this weekend, which is followed by rowing between August 5 and August 9 before the sailing is staged from August 15 to August 22.
