Usain Bolt to race in New York

Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt will return to New York for the first time since breaking his first 100m world record at the Adidas Grand Prix in June.

Usain Bolt has confirmed that he will compete at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York this summer.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist has not raced in the city since 2008, when he claimed his first 100m world record with a time of 9.72s.

He has since gone on to smash that time on a number of occasions, with the current mark now 9.58s, and the Jamaican is looking forward to returning to the scene of his maiden record-breaking run.

"No-one could ever forget their first world record and I will never forget the crowd in New York that night," Bolt said in a statement.

"They had to wait for an hour during a thunderstorm delay before our race, and I don't think a single person left the stadium. They deserved a great performance, and I'm glad I was able to give it to them. I'm looking forward to running in New York again."

Bolt will also compete at the Diamond League events in Lausanne and Paris as he prepares to defend his world titles in Beijing in August.
