Katarina Johnson-Thompson made a good start to her pentathlon campaign at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

The world indoor champion equalled her season's best with 8.27 seconds in the 60 metres hurdles, finishing second in her heat behind France's hurdles specialist Solene Ndama.

Johnson-Thompson is the favourite for gold in the absence of Belgian Olympic champion Nafi Thiam.

Great Britain's World junior heptathlon champion Niamh Emerson, who won bronze behind Johnson-Thompson at the Commonwealth Games last year, set a new personal best of 8.54secs.
