Mo Farah to compete in 1,500m at Birmingham Grand Prix

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah announces that he will compete in the 1,500m at the Birmingham Grand Prix on June 7.

Mo Farah has revealed that he hopes to make improvements to his speed when taking part in the 1,500m at the Birmingham Grand Prix.

The double Olympic champion hasn't competed over the distance since 2013, but ahead of his attempts to win World Championship gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m in the summer, the British distance runner is keen to test himself at the Diamond League meeting in the West Midlands.

The 32-year-old told Athletics Weekly: "The World Championships in Beijing is the main aim for this year. Birmingham will be good to work on my speed in a shorter early season race.

"It will be good to step down to 1,500m and test myself over a shorter distance. Some of the best middle distance runners in the world will be in the field so I will have to be at my best to compete with them."

Farah currently holds the British record for the distance.
