Kim Collins: 'The 100m has lost its excitement'

Former world champion Kim Collins believes that 100m races have lost their excitement, with the top men in the sport only facing each other at major events.

Kim Collins has said that the shot put has become more exciting than sprint races due to the lack of star-studded lineups at events.

During 2015, the top athletes in the sport have failed to face each other in the 100m, and the 2002 world champion has claimed that the event has started to lose its appeal ahead of the World Championships.

The 39-year-old told BBC's Sportsworld: "I don't see sprinting as the prime event anymore. These boys can hide too much. Shot put has become more exciting than the men's 100m because we very seldom see the best men lining up.

"Everybody wants to duck and hide. This is not boxing. It's a race. It's what we do. When you want to duck and hide, it is a form of killing the sport and the event."

World and Olympic champion Usain Bolt will feature at the Anniversary Games in London this weekend, but the likes of Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell will miss the event.
