Lord Sebastian Coe boosted in race to gain IAAF presidency

Lord Sebastian Coe has received a boost in his bid to become the new president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Coe and Sergei Bubka would fight it out to replace Lamine Diack, who is leaving his role after 16 years in charge.

The election will not take place until August 19, but Coe has been openly backed by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe.

The group, which is made up of Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino, are also joined by Ireland, Italy and Estonia in supporting the former British distance runner.
