Caster Semenya says that the controversy regarding her gender after her 2009 World Championships gold medal is "in the past".

South African 800m runner Caster Semenya has revealed that she is looking to the future and that the controversy regarding her gender after her 2009 World Championships gold medal is "in the past".

The International Association of Athletics Federations announced that Semenya would face a gender test after her gold medal win and did not clear her for competition again until July 2010, but the athlete is now focusing on the future and the Olympic Games.

"That is in the past," she said. "You need to concentrate on the future. I don't have to entertain those things now. I can concentrate on my running, that's all.

"People ask questions that can make you sad, but I must always stay positive. That's what I have to learn. I have to act professionally. However this is my first Olympics so London will be special for me."

Semenya qualified for her debut Olympics in April.
