Sayers sets new British record

British javelin thrower Goldie Sayers stepped up her preparations for the Olympic Games by breaking the British record at a Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace this afternoon.

The previous record of 65.75m also belonged to the 29-year-old, which she achieved during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

However, the Newmarket-born athlete surpassed that distance earlier today when she threw an opening round 66.17m.

Sayers finished fourth at the last Games in China four years ago.
