News International has lost exclusive access to potential London 2012 athletes after the recent phone hacking scandal.

Team 2012, a Visa-sponsored Olympic partner which funds potential British Olympians, has parted company with Rupert Murdoch's media organisation.

A statement by the partner read: "As a result of the closure of News of the World the contract can no longer be fulfilled as originally envisaged."

Rupert Murdoch and his son James appeared in front of a government select committee on Tuesday to answer questions about News International's conduct after a string of allegations.
