Over 13,500 members of the armed forces will be used as security for the Olympic Games in London next summer.

The Ministry of Defence have confirmed that over 13,500 members of the armed forces will be drafted in to provide security for next year's London Olympics.

Initial plans stated that there would be around 10,000 staff employed to keep the capital safe during the Games. However, the number has since risen, which indicates that there will be more troops in the city next summer than there currently are in Afghanistan.

It is expected that approximately half of the troops will be full-time in London next year, which will include responsibilities such as crowd control at specific events.

This news comes after it was announced that the Olympic budget was increased for reinforcements in security and to cover costs for the opening and closing ceremonies.
