McCartney to close Olympic opening ceremony

Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed that he will close the opening ceremony at this summer's London Olympics.

It was revealed in January that the former Beatle was in talks about taking part in the show and the 69-year-old has now put an end to the speculation.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: "I've been booked." He then added that he would be "closing the opening".

The ceremony will take place on July 27.
