Kenteris and Thanou acquitted

Greek sprint duo Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou have been acquitted of faking a motorcycle accident in 2004.

The pair were accused of staging the crash on the eve of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 to avoid a doping test and were charged with perjury in May.

However, a panel of three judges has ruled that there was a lack of evidence to suggest this was the case.

The now-retired sprinters were not present in court but Kenteris's lawyer revealed that his client's "feeling of emotion is beyond words", according to the AP.

Thanou's representative added that she was "very, very, very happy. For sure, she's had a difficult time all these years."

Both had originally been handed 31-month suspended sentences.
