Tyson Gay believes that the men's 100m is open and set to be "spectacular".

Tyson Gay has said that he believes the men's 100m at the London Olympics will be "spectacular".

A host of sprinters seem to be hitting form, with reigning Olympic double sprint champion Usain Bolt showing that he is not invincible.

Bolt, who was beaten twice in the Jamaican trials by the current world 100m champion and training partner Yohan Blake, has now withdrawn from the July 20 meet in Monaco after picking up what his coach Glen Mills labelled a "slight" injury.

Gay believes that the competition is now "open", with many competitors able to take the title.

"There are a lot of people now in the 100m, it is open for the Games," said Gay, who claimed golds in the 100 and 200m at the 2007 worlds in Osaka.

"Bolt, Blake, Gatlin, my training partner Bledman. It will be spectacular!"

Gay is the world's second-fastest man, with his record of 9.69 seconds second only to Bolt's 9.58s.
