Kirani James wins 400m gold

World champion Kirani James added an Olympic gold medal to his collection this evening by winning the men's 400m at the Games in London.

The 19-year-old eased himself down the back straight, before building up the pace down the home straight to win the race comfortably in a time of 43.94s - the first time he has broken the 44-second barrier.

He has also become the first athlete from Grenada to ever win a gold medal at an Olympic Games.

Fellow 19-year-old Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic took the silver medal in 44.46s.

Trinidad and Tobago's Lalonde Gordon claimed the bronze in a personal best time of 44.52s.
