Norovirus sweeps through Commonwealth Games athletes' village

Norovirus affects 53 Glasgow 2014 workers

A norovirus which has swept through the athletes' village in Glasgow has affected 53 workers ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

A further 18 members of the security team have also been taken ill, with the symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting.

A portable toilet has been identified as the source, and while many members of the workforce have used the facility, none of the athletes or other team members are thought to be at risk of picking up the sickness bug.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have confirmed that the temporary toilet facility has been closed.
