Glasgow 2014 helps raise £5m for children's charity Unicef

A total of £5m was raised for charity thanks to a partnership arranged by Glasgow 2014 officials.

The money is made up of £3.7m which was collected following an appeal by actor James McAvoy and Olympian Sir Chris Hoy during the opening ceremony of the Games, while a further £1.2m was raised through continued fundraising during the 11 days of competition.

All proceeds with go directly to children's charity Unicef.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Prince Imran of Malaysia said: "The generous support of our partnership with Unicef and Glasgow 2014 has raised a magnificent £5 million, which is already transforming lives throughout the world. Thank you all for being so generous,"

The 2014 Commonwealths officially concluded tonight with the closing ceremony at Hampden Park.
