Washington Redskins hire former quarterback Doug Williams

The Washington Redskins appoint former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Doug Williams as a personnel executive.

The Washington Redskins have appointed former quarterback Doug Williams as a personnel executive under general manager Bruce Allen.

The move sees Williams link up with Allen and new Redskins head coach Jay Gruden once again after the trio spent time together at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers between 2004 and 2008.

Williams was offered a front-office position with the Redskins in 2010, but turned the role down to become a general manager in the United Football League instead.

However, the 58-year-old has now decided to rejoin his former side and is keen to help them reach a Super Bowl during his tenure.

"It's great to be home again. I have only one mission: to help this team obtain the talent it needs so the fans can experience the Super Bowl they deserve," Williams said in a statement.

Williams is most famous for his performance at quarterback in the 1987 Super Bowl, when he threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns on his way to being named MVP in a 42-10 Redskins win over the Denver Broncos.
