Richard Sherman: 'New Seattle Seahawks deal will show their respect for me'

Sherman: 'Seahawks deal will show respect'

Richard Sherman has stated that he is one step closer to becoming the NFL's highest-paid cornerback.

The Seattle Seahawks man has claimed that whatever the final figure on his deal is, he will take it as a sign of respect from the franchise.

The 26-year-old is confident that the new contract will be in place before the 2014 season starts, although there is no suggestion yet as to how much he stands to earn.

Sherman told NFL Media: "Whatever they feel I am due, I will take it as respect. It's all about respect in this game, and the only way people respect is the dollars.

"I'm just going to let the agents handle that and the front office guys, and we'll see how it pans out."

Sherman recorded eight interceptions last season, and played a key role as his team won the Super Bowl.
