Pete Carroll says that the Seattle Seahawks deserved to play on a better playing surface at FedEx Field.

Pete Carroll has described the Washington Redskins' FedEx Field as "horrible", following the Seattle Seahawks' playoff game there at the weekend.

Large chunks of turf were loose on the playing surface, leading some players to struggle with their footing.

The Seahawks head coach told KIRO-AM: "It was horrible, it's a horrible field. It was as bad as a field could get for being dry. And it's too bad. It's really too bad, and we deserve better. It was worn out. There was a lot of slipping and all that kind of stuff.

"It was relative. It didn't change the game at all, in my opinion, because it was relative, both sides, but we should just expect to see a better field at that time of year.

"There was just a kind of dirt on top of the grass, so it was just not good footing."

Some pundits have blamed the state of the field for the knee injuries sustained by Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons.
