Vernon Davis ankle injury not serious

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis avoids suffering a serious ankle injury and could be fit for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

San Francisco 49ers star Vernon Davis did not sustain a serious ankle injury during the loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday night, according to a report.

The Niners tight end left the game on crutches and as a result there were initial fears that he may be forced into a significant spell on the sidelines.

However, an MRI scan on Monday revealed a deep bruise but no structural damage, much to the relief of 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, CSNBayArea.com reports.

It is reported that having avoided a serious injury, Davis could in fact be in line to return for San Francisco when they face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Davis wasn't able to return to the game against Chicago and with back-up tight end Vance McDonald also out with injury, Derek Carrier is currently the only healthy tight end on the roster.
