San Francisco 49ers place Ian Williams on injured reserve

San Francisco 49ers nose tackle Ian Williams will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury.

The San Francisco 49ers have placed Ian Williams on season-ending injured reserve after he injured his ankle against the Seattle Seahawks at the weekend.

The nose tackle reportedly sustained a fracture during a hit from Seahawks guard JR Sweezy in the first quarter of Sunday's 29-3 defeat.

The NFC West side signed fullback free agent Owen Marecic to a one-year contract to take Williams's spot on the roster.

Williams joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
