Eric Weddle: 'San Diego Chargers season meant to be special'

San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle believes that his side's season is "meant to be special" after they reached the NFL playoffs in dramatic fashion last night.

San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle has expressed his belief that his side's season is "meant to be special" after they snuck into the NFL playoffs with an overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs last night.

The Chargers overturned a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter of their match before clinching the victory with a field goal in overtime, a result that saw them make the playoffs after the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins had both lost earlier in the day.

Weddle admits that no-one was expecting his side to end their four-year wait for a playoff berth, but he is now looking forward to their wildcard match against the Cincinnati Bengals next weekend.

"It feels like this season is meant to be special. Whether it happens or not, we'll read that story at the end. But we're in, and no one really thought that could happen," Weddle told The AP.

"What a wild ride, all 16 games and it comes down to the last game. A lot of people had us out but we stuck together in the locker room. It's the best team, morale, togetherness, that I have ever been a part of.

"It didn't look great at times in that game and now we are in the tournament. We can't wait to go to Cincinnati."

The Chargers will be looking to become the first team to beat the Bengals at the Paul Brown Stadium this season.
