San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews believes that the team's new coaches will allow the team to have one of the strongest running games in the league.

Ryan Mathews has described the San Diego Chargers' new offensive system as "fun and aggressive".

The AFC West side changed their head coach and offensive coordinator during the off-season after the Chargers missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

The running back told team's official website: "I like what they are doing. It's fun and aggressive. There are a lot of run plays and a lot of pass plays so it's balanced. So I'm excited about it and how well I can play in it. And I know everyone else is too.

"I just want to help the team as much as I can. Whether that is 10 plays, 20 plays or 100 plays I want to do what I can to help us win. Starting Thursday I want to better myself, help my team get better and keep having fun.

"We can accomplish a lot. We can be one of the best running back groups in the league. We have a lot of different guys with a lot of different talents. Everyone we have is good in their own separate way. Putting us together, we are one big weapon."

Mike McCoy left his job as offensive coordinator at the Denver Broncos to become the Chargers' new head coach, while former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt took over as offensive coordinator with the side.
