Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has tragically died at the age of 24 after being struck by a car.

Haskins acted as the Steelers' third-choice quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph and did not make a single appearance for the team in the 2021 season.

The former Washington man was expected to compete for the quarterback berth in 2022 after Roethlisberger's retirement, but he was killed in South Florida on Saturday while training with his teammates.

A statement from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin read: "I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins. He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.

"Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thought and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time."

Haskins represented Washington for two seasons before making the move to Pittsburgh and was a standout college player for Ohio State between 2016 and 2018.
