Philadelphia Eagles survive St Louis Rams fightback

The Philadelphia Eagles survive a fierce fightback from the St Louis Rams to clinch a 34-28 win in the NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles held on to beat the St Louis Rams 34-28 in the NFL this evening, despite their opponents pulling back 21 points in the second half.

The Eagles were gifted the lead when Johnny Hekker's punt was blocked, leaving Chris Maragos to return it for a touchdown early in the first quarter.

The home side continued to look the stronger side offensively, but were unable to find their way back into the end zone in the opening 15 minutes, leaving Cody Parkey to add two field goals.

LeSean McCoy looked to create a chance in the running game, but the running back fumbled after weaving around in a bid to avoid the tackle.

His mistake allowed Rams quarterback Austin Davis to get the NFC West side on the board, firing a deep pass for Brian Quick to cut Philadelphia's lead to six points.

However, Nick Foles had the ball just before half time, and managed to find Riley Cooper for the wide receiver's first touchdown of the season.

Philadelphia continued to dominate in the third quarter, with Cedric Thornton recovered a Trent Cole fumble for a score before Jeremy Maclin hauled in a Foles pass.

However, Benny Cunningham collected a short pass from Davis to give the Rams some hope heading into the fourth quarter, cutting Philadelphia's lead to 20 points.

Kenny Britt and Quick both had touchdowns in the fourth quarter to leave St Louis needing just six, but the Eagles got a stop on fourth down to prevent the away side from completing the comeback.

The result leaves the Rams 1-3, while the Eagles move to 4-1.
