Foles: "I'm not here to be a backup"

Nick Foles has said that he does not want to be a backup quarterback at the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 24-year-old became the team's starter last season after Michael Vick sustained a concussion, but faces competition from his teammate again this year.

Foles told Phillymag.com: "I have all the confidence in the world in my ability, but I still respect the players around me and I know what they're capable of doing.

"But at the end of the day, I'm not here to be a backup. I'm here to be the guy. I don't think we play this game to sit on the bench.

"We play it to play, and I'm here to play. I feel like we're still competing and there is no lead. There's never a lead."

Foles played seven games for the Eagles last season, completing 1,699 passing yards.
