Eagles owner hails "dream" Redskins victory

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has hailed his side's surprise victory over the Washington Redskins last night as a "great dream".

The Eagles upstaged the much-publicised return of Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III by playing the match at a frenetic pace, taking a 26-point lead in the first quarter before holding off a late fightback to claim a 33-27 victory.

The Eagles finished bottom of the NFC East last season with just four wins to their name, and owner Lurie was delighted at having got the new season off to a winning start against last year's NFC East champions.

"You have great dreams and you have nightmares. That was a great dream," Lurie told The AP.

The match was Eagles coach Chip Kelly's first game in charge of an NFL side.
