University of Phoenix Stadium to host 2015 Pro Bowl

The NFL announces that the Pro Bowl will take a one season hiatus from being staged in Hawaii, with the University of Phoenix Stadium being chosen to host the match.

The NFL has announced that the 2015 Pro Bowl will take place at the same stadium as the Super Bowl.

The showpiece event, which is traditionally held in Hawaii, will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium on January 25 next year, exactly one week before Super Bowl XLIX at the same venue.

Changes to the Pro Bowl are not uncommon, with the league experimenting last season by introducing a draft system whereby football legends Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders captained two opposing sides.

Hawaii's Aloha Stadium will revert to hosting the contest in the 2016 season, while there is also an agreement with the state in place to play the match at the same site beyond then.

Next season will be the first time that both the Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl have been staged in the same stadium since 2010, when Miami's Sun Life Stadium played host.
