Michael Vick: 'Geno Smith and I will push each other to the limit'

New York Jets QB Michael Vick says that he will "always help and be there" for Geno Smith, despite competing against him to start for the team.

New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick has stated that he and Geno Smith will both help well as battle against each other as they bid for the team's starting spot.

Vick also spoke of his disappointment at not being one of the league's 32 first-choice signal-callers, although he added that his position could still change.

The 33-year-old told NFL Media: "I think, at times, it does hurt deep down that I'm not in that group [of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL].

"Everything happens for a reason, and maybe it's time for me to just kind of sit back and kind of appreciate what I'm going through now to make me a better quarterback in the future.

"Geno knows I'm going to push him to the limit, and I want him to push me. There's going to be times where he's gonna have to pick me up, where I'm gonna have to pick him up.

"I'm always gonna be there for him, always gonna help him out, and I think he's done a great job so far."

Jets coach Rex Ryan last week confirmed that there was definite competition between the pair for the starting job.
