Simms: 'I would pick Smith'

Former New York Giants legend Phil Simms has admitted that he would pick Geno Smith over Michael Vick to be next season's starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

Smith and Vick are in an ongoing battle to become the number one choice for Rex Ryan's side, with the coach insisting that competing for the place is making them both better players.

Simms - who won the Super Bowl with the Giants in 1987 - has suggested that he would opt for Smith's youth over Vick's experience, after the latter joined the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles during the off-season.

He told SNY: "I hate to get into all those things to be honest. But if you made me really pick one, I would pick Geno Smith.

"I think he's improved since last year. I thought the way he played at the end of last year probably gave him great confidence and now he knows what to expect from pro football."

Smith finished last season with 3,046 passing yards for 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions, while Vick lost his position in the Eagles team to Nick Foles midway through the campaign.
