New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg says that the team needs to start scoring more points.

Marty Mornhinweg has said that the New York Jets need to score more points in order to be successful in the NFL.

The AFC East side lost their opening game of the pre-season 26-17 to the Detroit Lions.

The offensive coordinator told the team's official website: "I believe we had eight including penalties, but six without the penalties that I call explosive plays.

"However, those explosive plays were 20-something and we're looking for the 40, 60 or more yards. We want to score, so there's the next step. Four to eight of those a game and you will typically win the game.

"We have to score more points than that period and we gave them 10 points. We didn't score enough points. That's the big picture look at it and then we get into all the details how we're going to get that accomplished."

The Jets have not reached the playoffs in the last two seasons.
