Saints owner taken to hospital

New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson has been taken to hospital with suspected concussion after hitting his head during the NFL spring meetings today.

Benson suffered the injury as he tripped when exiting the podium during New Orleans's pitch to host the 2018 Super Bowl, which was eventually awarded to Minneapolis.

The 86-year-old, who also underwent minor knee surgery earlier this month, did not suffer any serious injuries and is expected to be cleared to fly home in the near future.

"I hope he's well and we wish him the very best. I was a little scared to see that happen," Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie told reporters.

New Orleans were bidding to host the Super Bowl for a record 11th time.
