Kansas City Chiefs release Brandon Flowers

Cornerback Brandon Flowers is released by the Kansas City Chiefs having spent almost six years as part of the NFL team.

The Kansas City Chiefs have released cornerback Brandon Flowers.

The cover man, who featured as the team's second-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, had been expected to leave after he failed to impress as part of Bob Sutton's defense.

According to the NFL's official website, it is also thought that the Chiefs made their decision given that they are also trying to agree new contracts for quarterback Alex Smith and pass-rusher Justin Houston.

Flowers may not be out of off-season action for too long, however, with the Atlanta Falcons thought to be interested in the player.
