Trent Richardson aims to redeem himself following playoff debut fumble

Richardson aims to put fumble behind him

Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson is hoping for the chance to make amends for the fumble he sustained during his first carry of last weekend's win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Following only the second drop of his pro career, Richardson didn't touch the ball again in the game, and was used solely for pass protection as his side mounted their comeback.

Richardson was acquired in mid-season from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a first-round pick, but has struggled to nail down a regular role in the team, averaging just three yards per carry.

To The Indianapolis Star, he said of his first ever post-season appearance: "You feel like you've got to redeem yourself for it. You feel like you've got to make a statement.

"It's one thing that my brother has always told me: the fastest way to get yourself on the bench is fumbling the ball. And that replays in my head every day when I come out to work.

"I don't fumble the football. That's something that I had to work on all week mentally. Because I know that's not me."

Richardson will hope to get a second chance when the Colts take on the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional round on Saturday night.
