The Houston Texans have confirmed that Ed Reed has been working away from the team's practice facility with a hip specialist.

The safety, who joined the Texans earlier this year after coming to the end of his deal with the Baltimore Ravens, underwent hip surgery during the off-season.

Head coach Gary Kubiak told reporters: "We've got him working with a certain guy who's been working with his rehab that's done it before. He's going to spend a couple of days with him.

"We're going to do it this week and we're going to do it early next week, so that we're proceeding in the right direction in phases of his rehab.

"He's worked with us before, so we wanted him to go see him for a couple of days and basically make sure we're doing the right things. We're going to do that for a couple of days each week."

The 34-year-old believes that he sustained the injury during a collision with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during last season's playoffs.

It is not known when Reed will be able to return to full practice with the team.
