Kirksey: 'Hopkins must earn starting role'

Larry Kirksey has said that DeAndre Hopkins has more work to do if he is to earn a starting role with the Houston Texans.

The AFC South side used their first-round draft pick to acquire the wide receiver last month.

The team's receiver coach told the Houston Chronicle: "The [second-year receivers] have come a long way from last year, and now DeAndre's got to go through the same learning process.

"He's a talented young man, and we have very high expectations for him. But these second-year guys are ahead of him right now. They're competing, they're not just going to let him have the job."

Andre Johnson led the Texans in receiving yards in 2012 with 1,598 and four touchdowns.
