Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt has revealed that he would like to be involved in his side's offensive plays in the future.

Watt, who was named as the Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year last season, began his college career as a tight end before moving to his current position in defence.

The 24-year-old is keen to return to his attacking roots, but admits that he can't see it happening soon due to Texans coach Gary Kubiak's differing opinion on the matter.

"Whatever I can do to help the team win, I will do," Watt is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I've been lobbying since day one. It hasn't worked yet, so I don't think it's going to work anytime soon but it's [Kubiak's] team.

"It's just about being an athlete. I have fun, catching balls is fun, just doing whatever you can to be an athlete, working on hand-eye coordination, and the little things. It never hurts to be able to catch a football."

Watt was selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2011 Draft.
